In the Spring of 2010, the Urban Charrette facilitated a design charrette for StageWorks Theatre, a Tampa-based non-profit theatre company. StageWorks Theatre approached the Urban Charrette to assist in developing strategies and affordable concepts to accomplish the interior build-out of their new theatre space, located in Tampa’s Channel District.

The Urban Charrette established the following project goals for the project:

To use the charrette process to create a shared vision for the new StageWorks Theatre space. • To use creativity and innovation to address the budget constraints of the selected interior finishes of the new StageWorks Theatre. • To feature the StageWorks public outreach programs in the design concepts developed during the process. • To provide schematic design recommendations to be used as a guide for next steps in the interior build-out and fundraising process.

During the workshop, Stakeholders collaborated with the workshop facilitators leading to sustainable, reclaimed solutions for completing the interior build-out. The concepts centered around a collective vision and programmatic elements developed during the one-day work session. Following the workshop, the Urban Charrette team complied research of reclaimed building practices and design ideas, as well as implementation and marketing strategies.

In 2011, the new StageWorks Theatre space opened for business and offers annual theatre productions and events in the Channel District. (www.
