In July 2010, the Urban Charrette utilized its member’s knowledge and passion for livability issues to host an open forum called Transit Talk at the Tampa Museum of Art. At the center of the discussion was an important transit referendum to be placed on the forthcoming Hillsborough County Ballot. The referendum called for a penny sales tax increase to fund light rail transportation and improved bus services.
As a special installment of the Urban Charrette’s Open Mic Series, Transit Talk, utilized four panelists to facilitate an open conversation with community members regarding the social and economic impacts of transit oriented development. The vibrant discussion that ensued included concerned citizens, public officials, transportation experts, and business owners. Transit Talk exemplified the Urban Charrette’s ability to combine education and community engagement to bring interest to elements of urban design.
